Class Descriptions
Youth Pre-Professional Program (YPP)

The Youth Pre-Professional program is an exclusive training program,
attendance is by invitation only. Students are required to take Classical Ballet, Jazz, Modern
and other classes when appropriate.
YPP students may be asked to perform at events outside of CMDC’s
normal curriculum performances. Additionally, YPP students may
be trained for pre-professional competitions. Students interested
in a position in YPP must speak with the Director for assessment.
Hiplet®

Hiplet® 1 & 2 (advanced students only)
Hiplet is the registered trade mark and dance genre of Homer Hans Bryant and
Chicago Multi-Cultural Dance Center. Hip Hop movement is performed En Pointe
with an urban/classical emphasis. Students must be granted permission to enroll
in Hiplet®.
Intermediate Program

Intermediate Ballet (boy and girls ages 13+)
Students at this level must have at least 3 years of classical ballet
training, and be familiar with ballet terminology. Focus is placed on
barre, center work, petit allegro, adagio, and pirouettes.
Girls prepare for Pointe by developing strength in feet, ankles, and
legs.
Teen Ballet

Teen Ballet (boy and girls ages 13+)
This class is designed to expose teens to classical ballet. This class is fast
paced and designed for teenagers who have little exposure to ballet, but may
have experience in other dance genres.
Focus is on improving flexibility, balance, proper posture, and placement.
Jazz

Jazz 1 through 4 (boys/girls, ages 7+)
Our Jazz classes are exciting and full of rhythm! The instructors teach Jazz
dance technique, terminology, movement and proper execution. The repertoire
varies from traditional Jazz to Lyrical Jazz.
Modern

Modern 1 through 4 (boys/girls, ages 7+)
This class teaches the Modern Dance Technique of Lester Horton. Focus is based
on angular movement, with emphasis on core strength and body alignment.
Tap & Hip Hop

Tap basic, 1 & 2 (boys/girls, ages 5 – 14)
This class teaches basic and intermediate Tap technique. Focus is on musicality,
rhythm and syncopation.
Hip Hop 1 – 2 (boys/girls ages 7+)
This is a high energy class which teaches discipline and the latest urban,
“street-styled” moves.
Pre & Beginning Ballet

Pre-Ballet 1 & 2 (boys/girls, ages 6 – 10)
These classes build on the creative movement instruction. The focus is placed on
developing good posture, balance, coordination, muscularity, and exposure to the
fundamentals of Ballet including terminology and demonstration.
Beginning Ballet (boys/girls, ages 9 – 13)
This class is fun and exciting! Young dancers work on improving ballet
positioning. Focus is placed on correct foot and arm placement, work at the
barre, confidence, discipline and increased vocabulary (terminology).
African

African 1 & 2 (boys/girls ages 5+)
This class includes dances from West Africa and the Caribbean. It is a fun and
exhilarating class for children of all ages. The focus is on teaching rhythmic
patterns and the intricacies of ethnic dance movement.
Creative Movement

Creative Movement A, B, & C (boy & girls, ages 3 – 5)
These classes are designed to introduce 3 – 5 year olds to basic movement,
coordination, rhythm and discipline. Children work on basic motor skills while
moving to music and having fun. The Creative Movement curriculum is divided into
three levels. As the students progress, the teachers focus on flexibility,
balance, coordination, self control and group participation.

Important Information
CMDC Policy Info
DROP IN CLASSES Single Classes
TUITION & FEES
Are payable in full on or prior to the beginning of the first class. Any
student with outstanding balances will not be able to register for classes
until all outstanding balances are paid in full.
PAYMENT PLAN
A contract must be signed and agreed upon, prior to the student’s first day.
Initial payment at time of registration should be equal to the first of
three monthly installment payments. Must provide credit card or leave
post-dated checks.
TUITION REFUND/CREDIT POLICY
All fees are NON-REFUNDABLE. Students who withdraw during a semester
will still be held responsible for payment. Refunds or credits will be
pro-rated and issued due to special circumstances with the provision of a
doctor’s affidavit, identifying a prolonged illness or injury.
Refunds or replacement cards will not be
issued for lost/stolen class cards.
CANCELLATION POLICY
The CMDC reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient
enrollment or inconsistent attendance.
